EFRJ Summer School 2019
   
Every 2 years, the EFRJ organises its Summer School on a different location in Europe and on a different theme. On 22-26 July, we will wait for you in Gdańsk, Poland, to reflect and practice on how to develop a more child-friendly RJ. We will benefit of the expertise of two trainers, Bie Vanseveren (Belgium) and Belinda Hopkins (UK), and learn more from the local organising team from the Faculty of Law and Administration of Gdańsk University, lead by our former Board member Beata Czarnecka-Dzialuk.Registrations will open in January!
 
 
EFRJ AGM & Symposium
  The EFRJ membership will meet for its Annual General Meeting on 4 June in Bilbao, Spain. The event will be followed by a two-day RJ Symposium (5-6 June) for policymakers and practitioners entitled: "From Penal Mediation to Restorative Justice: Policies and Practices in Transition". The symposium will include plenaries, workshops, interactive sessions and a theatre play. This initiative is organised together with the Ministry of Labour and Justice of the Basque Government and Deusto University. Registrations will open in January. 
 
EFRJ formation en français sur JR & criminalité grave
   

*Training in French on RJ in serious crime*

Le EFRJ organise une formation pour le public francophone, sur l’application de la JR aux cas de criminalité grave. La formation aura lieu le 28-29 mars 2019 à Bruxelles, animée par Antonio Buonatesta, médiateur belge et directeur du “Service de médiation entre auteurs et victimes d’infraction” (Mediante) en Belgique. Les inscriptions seront obligatoires et disponibles à partir de janvier 2019.
 
EFRJ meetings in Leuven
The EFRJ Board and Secretariat recently met in Leuven (5-6 December) to follow-up on the achievements in 2018 and further plan our activities in the upcoming years. During the same week, also the EFRJ editorial committee met in Leuven, to define everyone's tasks and focus on the publications of next year's Newsletter. You can download here the last printed edition of the EFRJ Newsletter and read the editorial to have an overview of the EFRJ work in 2018.     
New conversation in Restorotopias
As announced during the international RJ Week, the Secretary of the EFRJ Board Brunilda Pali launched a new blog as part of her postdoctoral project. Every month you can expect a new piece to be published. After the one with Howard Zehr, "Restorotopias" includes now a second conversation, this time with European RJ Winner 2014, Christa Pelikan.              
            
    
 
Book series on RJ
           EFRJ members Estelle Zinsstag and Tinneke van Camp started a book series entitled "Studies in Restorative Justice" published by Eleven International Publishing and supported by an international advisory board. The first book "Building Bridges: Prisoners, Crime Victims and RJ" (by Gerry Johnstone and Ian Brennan) is expected in February 2019. Interested authors might consider it for their upcoming publications!
 
Practice guide on RJ with child victims
  
    
  In the past 2 years the EFRJ contributed as a partner in the EU funded project "Implementing RJ with child victims", coordinated by the International Juvenile Justice Observatory. At the final conference which took place some weeks ago in Brussels, a new practice guide was distributed. You can find it online in 7 different languages!
 
IIRP Europe conference
The IIRP Europe conference will take place in Kortrijk (Belgium) on 15-17 May 2019. Among the speakers, the EFRJ chair Tim Chapman will talk about "Activating Community: A Restorative Response to Intercultural Conflict" and Borbála Fellegi (founder and directer of our member Foresee Research Group) will talk about "A Prelude to Resilience: Rebuilding Trust in Fragmented Communities". The call for papers closes on 14 January.     
  
    
Training on RJ
A five-day training on ''restorative approaches in youth and community settings'' will be organised by Transforming Conflict (founder Belinda Hopkins is a key EFRJ member) on 25-29 March 2019 in the UK. The training will give special attention to conflict, bullying, disruption and challenging behaviour     
 
Podcasts on RJ
    Free podcasts on restorative practices and RJ to listen to, hosted by Molly Rowen Leach from "Restorative Justice on the Rise". A variety of subjects within RJ will be covered through panel discussions and conversations with speakers. 
 
Moment of inspiration
     
  Few months ago our Board member Brunilda Pali published a new blog piece entitled "RJ and terrorism: resisting evil with non-evil". She gives examples of the actual use of RJ in terrorism cases and reflects on the potential of RJ. On the same blog, you may find many other inspiring articles written by Bruna.
