The Symposium Opens Next Week!

There is only this weekend left until the start of the virtual symposium “Restorative Justice Over Distance” (21-25 June). We hope that the event will bring together the expanding community around the EFRJ: people curious about restorative justice and about the most recent developments in the field.
If you haven't registered yet, this is your last chance:  we accept last minute registrations until the Monday morning ( 21 June - 11 am CEST) .
Registered participants can already check out the online environment of the event, start to explore the exhibition area, and start networking.
All sessions will be recorded and the videos will be accessible for registered participants for a period of three months after the last day of the symposium.
Looking forward to meeting you next week!

Participate in the PROTECT Training!
There are 11 days left to apply for this great opportunity for our members: participate in an international training programme on restorative justice and victims' rights.
The EFRJ is one of the partners of the Erasmus+ project “PROTECT - Exchanging good practices on restorative justice and promoting the victims’ rights protection”. We are currently searching for members willing to participate in the 3 trainings on victims and restorative justice organised within the framework of this project. Application deadline: 30 June 2021.

Why Are We Looking Forward to the Symposium?

We are looking forward to the virtual symposium for many different reasons. That's not surprising as it has a rich programme with many different elements - so there are many things on the table to choose from. To make the colourful offer more visible: we asked the expectations of those who were most involved in conceiving and preparing the event: the EFRJ Board and the key organisers of the event. You can watch their answers in the video series shared on our website and our social media channels. Check out these if you are looking for some tips on what to attend!

New Speakers in the Interactive Dialogues
We have announced the updated list of the 6 international speakers who will engage in dialogues facilitated by our Board member, Brunilda Pali on the future of restorative justice:  William Wood (Senior lecturer in criminology and criminal
justice at Griffith University, Australia) will join Juan Tauri on 24 June) and Johonna McCants-Turner (Assistant Professor in The Center for Justice and Peacebuilding at Eastern Mennonite University, USA) will exchange ideas with Thalia Gonzalez on 22 June.
The first day's (21 June) dialogue hasn't change: it will feature a talk between Dominic Barter (Brazil) & Mara Schiff (USA). These sessions will include also a moment for participants to share their impressions in the breakout rooms before entering into a discussion with the speakers. Check the biographies of the speakers in the programme booklet available on our site

CJPE Webinar on Victims' Rights & Reintegration of Offenders
Victims’ rights in Europe evolved in the past years, and the European Commission launched its first ever Victims’ Rights Strategy in 2020. What are important elements of this Strategy? What are the implications for probation, prison and restorative justice? How could these fields support victims’ rights and make their work more informed on victims’ needs? What about vulnerable victims, such as victims in detention? This webinar explores the intersections between victims’ rights and offender reintegration, and that how these fields can mutually support each other.
Join us on the free webinar we organise in collaboration with Europris and CEP Probation in the framework of the Criminal Justice Platform Europe cooperation on 7 July between 10 am — 12 pm CEST. Register until 5 July

Online Conference on the Impact of Restorative Justice
Restorative justice has grown immensely in the last decades, both within the criminal justice system as a response to crime, and in society as a response to social harms and conflicts. Its application within the criminal justice system raises questions around effectiveness and impact for its main stakeholders, but also around its possible impact on the transformation of the justice system as a whole. Its application outside the criminal justice system raises questions around its social impact on our society as a whole. While it is crucial to understand the impact of our practices and our justice paradigms, it is also important to engage critically with the trends and questions around evaluation and impact.
On 5 November 2021, our Research Committee will therefore organise a conference that aims to engage in collective, critical and productive discussions around themes of social impact and evaluation of restorative justice. More info on this event will be available at the end of July. For now, save the date!
