CJP Seminar on Radicalization and Violent Extremism

  This international seminar on Radicalisation and Violent Extremism is one of the annual activities of the Criminal Justice Platform Europe (EFRJ, EuroPris,Confederation of European Probation). International RJ Week 2015

Inspiring Innovation, Restorative Justice Week 2015
 

The International RJ Week will take place between 15-22 November 2015. This year the EFRJ will celebrate it with a series of events in Leuven (Belgium)! At the end of the ALTERNATIVE conferenceon RJ in conflicts in intercultural settings, there will be a theatre play performed by a Norwegian group, a book presentation from a Belgian author and a film screening from a German director. A preliminary programme will be available soon on the EFRJ website!

 
 
 
15th Anniversary of the EFRJ

 
On 8 December 2015 the EFRJ will celebrate its 15th anniversary! In order to make sure that many of you can attend this event, we decided to celebrate it on Wednesday 18 November during the international RJ Week. Among other events, a walking dinner and talk by some of our current and old board members will take place here in Leuven. The preliminary programme will be integrated as part of the activities taking place in Leuven during the international RJ Week 2015 (soon available on the EFRJ website!).
 
 
 
ALTERNATIVE conference on RJ in intercultural settings
 

The final conference of the ALTERNATIVE project will be organised by KU Leuven on 16-18 November 2015. This EU funded project dealt with the possible use of RJ approaches in conflicts in intercultural settings and aimed at proposing 'alternative' measures to increase justice and security in Europe. The deadline for submitting abstracts is 1 September. CEP International Conference on RJ during probation
The Confederation of European Probation (CEP) is organising a conference on the use of RJ during probation, the use of mediation between offender and victim during the criminal proceeding and counselling, and the support and cooperation for the victim within the probation service on 23-25 September 2015 in Prague (Czech Republic). More info here   CEP Probation
IIRP Annual Conference of restorative practices

On 26-28 October 2015 in Bethlehem (Pennsylvania, USA), the International Institute for Restorative Practices (IIRP) will organise its 19th World Conference 'Restorative Works: Share, Teach, Engage'. This conference will bring together leading restorative practitioners and thinkers who are shaping the new social science of restorative practices. More info here

Annual Conference of the Victimology Society of Serbia 
The Serbian partner in the ALTERNATIVE project, the Victimology Society of Serbia (VDS), will hold its 6th Annual Conference ‘New trends in victimology theory and practice: Dilemmas and challenges in protecting victims’ (Belgrade, 26-27 November 2015). Information on the conference, the call for abstracts and registration form are available here, or contact the organisers at vdsconference@gmail.com or vdsrbija@gmail.com. 
 
Seminar on RJ and domestic violence

The final seminar of the research project 'Restorative Justice and Domestic Violence' will take place in Brussels on 16 January 2016. The EFRJ is a partner in this project coordinated by the Verwey-Jonker Institute (The Netherlands). During the seminar, the final report and guide will be presented and there will be room for interactive discussions. The programme will be available soon on the EFRJ website. Right to access RJ for victims

 

The public believe that victims should have the right to access RJ, according to new polling published by the Restorative Justice Council (RJC). 77% of people think that victims should have the right to meet their offender; the majority think that RJ can help offenders see what impact their crime has on victims (59%) and can help victims to move on (53%). Still, only 30% of people had heard of RJ. Read more here.

 
 
 
 
 
 New book on the role of community in RJ
 

Drawing on an empirical case study and the wider sociological literature, 'The Role of Community in Restorative Justice' examines the involvement of the community in one selected practice of RJ.  It is argued that restorative justice programmes need to start from a more concrete and up-to-date notion of community.
