| 8th International Conference of the EFRJ |

“Being victimized means having all your choices been taken away from you and to recover you need to have your choices back”. During the 8th conference of the EFRJ, Shannon Moroney (Canada) will present her memoir, "Through the Glass: One Woman's Quest for Justice, Healing and Forgiveness". Shannon will use photos, artwork, emotion and imagery to move and provoke the audience with her personal experience as a victim of crime. Listen to Shannon´s interview on CBC Radio's The Current. Or come and listen to Shannon´s presentation and many other ones on 11-14 June in Belfast during the 8th EFRJ Conference!!!

| Training on Accessibility and Initiation for RJ |

There are still free places to attend the training on Accessibility and Initiation for RJ!!! The training will take place in Leuven (Belgium) on 14-15 May 2014.
The target groups are legal professionals (police, public prosecutors, judges, lawyers), victim support workers, probation officers and any other interested persons in RJ practices.

| Welcome to the EFRJ volunteers |

During the past month, you may have received some emails from our new staff members: Jan, Mirko and Eric.
Jan Helaers is our Belgian student in criminology doing an internship at the EFRJ. Mirko Miceli is our Italian volunteer with a Master in Criminology from KU Leuven. Eric Wiersma is our Dutch volunteer; he is an experienced criminal & RJ professional.
Jan is currently updating the country information on the EFRJ website and he is mostly in contact with our members. Mirko and Eric are assisting with the organisation of the upcoming EFRJ conference in Belfast (reviewing paper & presentation proposals, composing the final programme, practical assistance in Belfast).

| Survey on RJ teaching programmes |

The Leuven institute of Criminology (LINC) and the EFRJ launched an online database on RJ teaching programmes. This database hopes to include all the courses at the university and university college level available worldwide. You can find more information hereand you can send us an e-mail to participate to the survey and add your RJ teaching programme in our database.

| Workshops on Desistance and RJ |
|
During the past month, two one-day workshops have been organized within the framework of the Desistance and Restorative Justice project coordinated by the EFRJ. Together with the invited experts, participants in Belfast and Viennacommented on the preliminary results of the research concerning mechanisms for desisting from crime within RJ practices. The last training will take place in Leuven this Thursday, April 24th.

| Survey: victims of crime and RJ |

Within the frame of the EU funded project “Restorative Justice in Europe - Safeguarding Victims & Empowering Professionals (RJE)”, an Europe-wide survey has been conducted. The questionnaire is directed to victims of crime who have participated in a RJ service. It is available online in ten different languages. Please consider to participate if you have been participating in a RJ service after becoming a victim of crime and /or forward the link to others concerned.

Mass Incarceration in the US: punishment, correction and deterrence are the justifications for incarceration. Since "today´s prisoners are tomorrow´s neighbors", correction should be the main focus, but this seems not to be the case.
