Newsflash July II / 2021 View this email in your browser Summer 2021 We had a busy start of the summer with our virtual symposium in June, a CJPE webinar on victims' rights, two face-to-face (finally!) training courses for the judiciary in Italy, and an online advocacy event raising awareness of the usefulness of restorative justice for child victims. In this Newsflash you can read more about some of the completed events and developments, and also get informed about a selection of the abundant programme offer in the autumn. For many of these the registrations are already open, don't miss them! Finally, we send you special summer wishes in the last block of this edition! LGBTQ+ Hate Crime and Restorative Justice We continue our webinar series organised in collaboration with the US based National Association of Community and Restorative Justice (NACRJ) this autumn with a topic that has recently gained growing attention, on anti LGBTQ+ hate crime and restorative justice. Similarly to the previous editions this webinar will also feature speakers from the US and from Europe with expertise on the topic. The webinar will take place on 27 September at 5:30 pm CEST, and you can already register. The Social Impact of Restorative Justice The EFRJ's Research Committee organises a one day online conference on 5 November 2021 with the title "Measuring, researching, narrating: Discussing the (social) impact of restorative justice". The event calls for discussion on understanding the impacts of growing number of restorative justice interventions and programmes on the criminal justice system and the society itself. Registrations are open for the event. Register Now for the CJPE Course The Criminal Justice Platform Europe (CJPE) Summer Course on the topic of sexual violence will exceptionally take place on 19 - 22 October 2021. It will be a face-to-face event taking place in Barcelona in the rooms of Centre for Legal Studies and Specialised Training. The registrations for the course are now open. The course - as all CJPE events - is organised in collaboration with the Confederation of European Probation (CEP) & European Organisation of Prison and Correctional Services (EuroPris). Each organisation will address the main topic from a different but complementary angle. You can read more about the programme in the course booklet. The course was originally planned for last year, but it was postponed. You can watch the webinar with speakers Kristel Buntinx and Vincent Mercer that we organised in 2020 on the topic here. Restorative Justice & Child Victims The online advocacy event organised by the i-RESTORE team took place this week and was well attended by various professionals from a large number of countries. Bie Vanseveren (Belgium), Maartje Berger (the Netherlands), and Silvia Randazzo (Belgium) from the project's Restorative Justice Advisory Group shared their insight about the use of restorative justice with minors through cases, and examples of good practices. The event was designed to promote the use of restorative justice for the protection and empowerment of children victims of crime. The i-RESTORE project will end with a final conference in Bucharest on 27-29 October. Lattanzi Commission on Restorative Justice In March 2021 Italy's Minister of Justice, Marta Cartabia set up a commission chaired by Giorgio Lattanzi to stimulate reform in the justice system of the country. More structural implementation of restorative justice was on the table the commission that included Professor Grazia Mannozzi, as we earlier reported. The commission has completed its report in May, and an English translation was made available earlier this month. You can read their conclusions and recommendations here published by the Criminal Justice Network. This is a significant development and may serve as the basis of further advancement in accessibility in Italy. Italian speaking professionals will be able to benefit of three unique occasions to further grow their restorative justice competencies: we will offer two online training courses in Italian in early 2022 for beginners and senior professionals, and we will host our 10th international conference in Sassari in June 2022. Restorative Justice Training for Italian Judges In the past weeks two restorative justice training events for judges and public prosecutors took place in Naples, Italy with the involvement of the EFRJ and some its members (Claudia Mazzucato, Ivo Aertsen and Grazia Mannozzi, our Board member, Patrizia Patrizi, our Policy Officer, Laura Hein and our Project Officer Silvia Randazzo). Both events were hosted by the Scuola superiore della magistratura, the national training institute for the judiciary in Italy, in the spaces of Castel Capuano. The second training event was organised in the framework of the RE-JUSTICE project. Based on the feedback of participating professionals on both events, they found the courses very instructive, and were able to explore the benefits of restorative justice for their field of work. Save the Dates! (You can download the flyer by clicking on the image.) Summer Holidays We started the shooting of a new restorative action movie and we are delighted to share a preview poster! Just kidding ... We made this picture to wish you pleasant, healthy and most of all refreshing summer holidays! Not every staff member could be present when we took the photo, but wishes are from all of us. Most of us at the Secretariat are also taking a breake in the coming weeks, attending long awaited family reunions, enjoying the nature, reading books... We wish that you can also do what is most precious for you! In any case, if you want to get in touch: one of us will be always checking the info@euforumrj.org email address. If you have issues that are time sensitive - contact us there!
